In order to take good photographs at night, consider taking low light photography lessons. All images taken by any camera require one key ingredient, light. In order to take any photograph, you need at least some light. Taking photographs in almost complete darkness can result in some very interesting photos. It is very different from taking photos indoors or outside in full light conditions.
If you take low light photography lessons, one thing you will almost certainly learn about is recording moving trails of light. A moving vehicle will create an interesting trail because of the lights that are on it. When the shutter speed is very low and the light is allowed to hit the lens for a long period of time, any moving light source will create a trail. If you photograph roadways and highways, you will get white trails from traffic coming towards you and red trails from traffic moving away. This effect can be really beautiful.

Low Light Photography Conditions
Low light photography conditions require more effort in order to get a really good photograph. Your camera plays a big role in this, as the difficulty in obtaining a good photograph will be dependent on the quality of optics as well as the quality of the electronics built into the camera.
In order to make sure that your lowlight photographs come out really nice, you need to know a few things about setting the camera up for low light photography conditions. Many cameras have excellent macro modes that allow you to set the camera properly for taking photographs at night or in very low light conditions. If you have a camera with a night macro mode, you're already halfway onto taking great photographs in almost complete darkness.

Low Light Photography
Low light photography can be especially satisfying because the results are almost always unpredictable. I like taking photographs in low light because the results can be incredible.
In order to have really good results with low light photography, it is best that you have a good camera that can take pictures in low light conditions with a minimum of graininess. If you have a really good digital camera, the amount of digital noise that appears in low light photographs will be minimized.
Just like in regular photography, taking photographs in low light requires good composition skills and a lot of patience in order to get the perfect digital photograph. Most people have difficulty composing a good shot, but you will get better at it if you constantly practice and practice and practice.
